Stanway is Seven Wealth Player of the Month for a third time this season

Having struck the telling blow in both of Thistle’s wins during February, Ben Stanway has been voted the Seven Wealth Player of the Month by the Jags faithful.

It was a close-run thing with Ben pipping January award winner Alex Samuel by just over 40 votes to continue his record of having won the prize on each of the three occasions he’s been nominated this season.

Ben’s month started with the winning goal against Elgin City at Borough Briggs when, having come close in the first half, he fired home with 10 minutes to play to send the Maryhill Men into the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.

That was followed by another winner the following week, at home to Airdrieonians. Given the responsibility of taking a free-kick from 20 yards out, Stanway powered the ball past Harry Stone on the goalkeeper’s side to edge Thistle in front – an advantage that they would turn into three vital points.

Upon receiving his award, Ben said:

“Thanks again to the fans and Seven Wealth; I’m delighted to have won the award for a third time this season. It was close between Alex and I – he would have been a deserved winner and you could say the same about a few other boys too.

“It was great to score two more goals, especially since they helped us get a pair of big wins. We can always be better, of course, and the two draws were a bit frustrating but we’re still in a good place and ready to push for the rest of the season.

“This week is a big one for the club and we’re all looking forward to Sunday night. Hearing that we’re going to have 1,600 Thistle fans making the trip to Paisley is such a boost for us as players so hopefully we can put on a performance to be proud of and get into the semi-finals.”
