East Fife earned a hard-fought point in a 1-1 draw away to Kelty Hearts at New Central Park on Saturday, in a match defined by contrasting halves and a pivotal second-half penalty.

The visitors made a positive start and looked the more threatening side early on, pressing Kelty high and forcing a series of corners. Nathan Austin and Sam Culbert were both involved in early chances, with Culbert seeing an effort saved as East Fife established territorial control. Their pressure told in the 34th minute when captain Brian Easton opened the scoring. The defender reacted quickest inside the box following a corner, firing high into the net to give East Fife a deserved lead.

Defensively, East Fife were organised and relatively comfortable for the remainder of the first half. Andy Munro’s booking shortly before the interval was one of the few signs of Kelty gaining a foothold, but the Fifers went in at the break 1-0 up and looking good value for their advantage.

Kelty Hearts emerged with greater intensity after the restart, aided by a double substitution that injected energy into their attack. The turning point came in the 50th minute when Cammy Cooper was brought down in the box, leading to a penalty. Alex Ferguson converted confidently, levelling the match at 1-1.

From that point, momentum shifted towards the hosts. Kelty began to dominate possession and created several chances, but East Fife goalkeeper Ruairidh Adams produced a series of important saves to keep the scores level. He denied efforts from Ferguson, Innes Murray and Cooper during a sustained period of pressure.

Despite being on the back foot, East Fife remained dangerous on the counter. Reis Peggie and Culbert both had attempts blocked or saved, while substitute Destiny Oladipo added physical presence in attack. However, clear-cut chances became limited as the game grew scrappier in the closing stages.

The final minutes saw both sides push for a winner, with corners at either end, but neither could find a decisive breakthrough. Ultimately, a draw was a fair reflection of the contest; East Fife the stronger side in the first half, and Kelty the more dominant after the interval.

For East Fife, the result represented a solid away performance, although they may feel they missed an opportunity to secure all three points after their strong first-half display.
