Montrose 1-0 East Fife – Match Report by Oli Anderson
🏆William Hill League 1
📍Links Park
🗓️Saturday 4th April 2026 | Kick-off: 3:00pm

It was a frustrating afternoon at Links Park as East Fife came away with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Montrose in a game that never quite swung in our favour.

We started reasonably well and, for spells in the first half, looked the more likely side. There was a bit of purpose in our play, and we managed to work the ball into some promising areas. Nathan Austin was unlucky to be twice denied by Montrose goalkeeper Harry Sharp in the first half.

The first from a header back across goal from a McKenna cross and the second from a header from point-blank range, with Sharp pulling off outstanding saves on both occasions.

The Gable Endies were organised throughout and seemed content to stay compact and let us have possession in less dangerous areas. They remained a threat on the break, though, and when their opportunity came, they took it. On 66 minutes, Blair Lyons found space at the back post to put Montrose 1-0 ahead.

From there, we saw plenty of the ball but found it difficult to break Montrose down. There was no shortage of effort, and we continued to push forward, but clear chances were limited and the home side dealt well with what we offered. As the game went on, it became increasingly difficult to find a way back into it.

In the context of where we are in the table, it’s a disappointing result, particularly given how tight the game was. It’s another reminder that fine margins are proving decisive, and turning performances into points will be key in the weeks ahead.
