East Fife 1-1 Inverness Caledonian Thistle – Match Report by Oli Anderson
🏆William Hill League 1
📍MGM Timber Bayview Stadium
🗓️Saturday 25th April 2026 | Kick-off: 3:00pm
It remains all to play for ahead of the final league game of the season, as Inverness Caley Thistle scored late to snatch a well-deserved victory from Dick Campbell’s East Fife side at the MGM Timber Bayview Stadium in Methil.
Going into the game, victory for Inverness would have seen them crowned champions of the third tier, though they could not compete with East Fife’s energy paired with the resolute defence.
Brian Easton would end up walking away with the Man of the Match award, as well as a handful of trophies at the club’s player of the year awards later that evening, although plaudits must go to Mamadou Bah, who proved the difference maker in this game against the league leaders, and the others this season, as the Gambian was able to stop Caley Thistle’s threat at the source.
East Fife’s first chance came after seven minutes from a corner. Bah had a header at the back post, but he couldn’t find the target. From there, East Fife had a period of control and we the better team in the first half, forcing the Caley Thistle goalkeeper into several stops.
Scott Kellacher clearly gave his men the proverbial boot at half time, as they came out with more intent. However, East Fife matched this and still looked the strongest team on the park.
They deservedly clinched the opener after 55 minutes of play, as Michael McKenna opened the scoring for the Methil Milan. A long throw found its way to Connor McManus, who flicked the ball over his head to Michael McKenna. The wide man made no mistake with his finish, as he stroked it into the bottom corner on the half volley.
After going a goal down, Caley Thistle threw themselves at East Fife trying to get a foothold on the game. The Fifers remained strong though, still creating plenty of chances, and in honesty, were quite unlucky not to at least double their lead. This led to Kellacher turning to his bench, bringing on experience such as David Wotherspoon and Billy McKay.
It was the latter who would break East Fife hearts in the 90th minute, with a wonder goal from outside of the area. He touched the ball with his chest, back to goal, before spinning, and firing his volley past Hemfrey in between the sticks.
Results elsewhere meant that despite arguably the performance of the season from this East Fife side, Saturday coming could not be more crucial. However, the silver lining is that Inverness now must win their final game of the season against our relegation rivals Hamilton Academical, to guarantee that they win the league, while victory for ourselves over Cove Rangers will ensure safety for Dick Campbell’s men.
