Aidan Fitzpatrick has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.

A graduate of the Partick Thistle Youth Academy, Aidan’s association with the Jags began as an 11-year-old when he was recommended by one of his primary school teachers.

Touted for big things at an early stage, the winger excelled as he progressed through the age groups and would earn his first full-time contract shortly after turning 16.

The following year, Fitzpatrick’s first team debut arrived as he came on and scored as a second half substitute against Albion Rovers in the Betfred Cup group stages – in doing so he became the first Thistle appearance maker and goalscorer born in the 21st century.

That kicked off a breakthrough season for the teenager who would rack up seven goals in 30 appearances during the 2018/19 campaign, attracting external interest which would manifest itself as a move to Norwich City.

After three years away with the Canaries at first and then Queen of the South, Fitzpatrick returned to Maryhill in July 2022 under Ian McCall after a successful trial period.

He made his re-debut off the bench in a League Cup fixture at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock and would score his first goal back at the club two games later at home to Montrose.

That season Aidan played 47 times, scored seven goals and provided seven assists, netting in both legs of the Premiership play-off final as the Jags fell just short of promotion.

Subsequently he reached double figures in both goals and assists during the 2023/24 campaign and added a further seven goal involvements the season after, playing 91 times over those two years alone.

This past season, under Mark Wilson, proved to be the most fruitful of the 25-year-old’s career so far as he amassed a remarkable 17 assists to go along with six goals across all competitions with highlights including a winner against Dunfermline in November and his five goal involvements across our 3-2 and 2-0 victories over Raith Rovers.

Now, sitting with 217 Thistle appearances to his name, Aidan has committed to another campaign at the club which will take his overall Jags service, across time spent with the Academy and first team, to 12 years.

Thistle Head Coach Mark Wilson said:

“With the way Aidan played last season, it’s no surprise that there was plenty of interest in him but the fact that he’s signed on for another year here at Firhill is testament to what we’ve built at the club.

“He’s got everything that I’m looking for from my wingers; creativity, fearlessness and an outstanding work rate. He’s a much-loved member of the dressing room too and I know the squad will be delighted to have him back next week.”
