Luke McBeth joins Ayr United for an undisclosed fee

Luke McBeth has joined Ayr United for an undisclosed fee, subject to Scottish FA clearance.

The defender ends a two-and-a-half year stay in Maryhill, during which time he has made 105 competitive appearances for the Jags.

Signed from Glenafton Athletic in January 2024, McBeth made his Thistle debut the day after he joined in a 3-2 win over Queen’s Park at Firhill before starting his first game for the club the following month as we drew 3-3 with Inverness in the Highlands.

From that point on, he was a regular starter and would go on to grab his first goal as a Jag in spectacular fashion when he bulleted in an equaliser at Airdrieonians in the first leg of the play-off quarter-finals.

The next season, after penning an extended contract, Luke made more appearances than any of his teammates as he featured 45 times across all competitions, started the last 14 games of the campaign and scored his first Firhill goal against Ayr United in a 2-0 win.

He made 39 further appearances this past season, taking him beyond a century, and started both legs of the Premiership play-off final against St. Mirren as the Jags narrowly missed out on promotion.

The club thanks Luke for his contributions as a Partick Thistle player and wishes him all the very best for the future.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Luke over the past 16 months and we’re sad to see him go but I also understand his desire to get more regular playing time at this stage of his career.

“On numerous occasions last season we had to rely on Luke when we had injuries or suspensions and he never let us down. That included playing in defence and midfield and we couldn’t have achieved everything that we did without his contributions.

“Off the pitch he is one of the most popular guys in the dressing room and he’ll be sorely missed in that regard too. I’m sure I speak for everyone in the football department when I wish him the best for the rest of his career.”
