Good teams find a way to win. Better teams do it with character. Tuesday night’s victory over Linlithgow Rose wasn’t just another three points in Group F – it was another demonstration of the character and belief growing within Dick Campbell’s East Fife side.

Things couldn’t have started much worse. With barely three minutes on the clock, James Berry headed the visitors into an early lead, stunning the Bayview crowd and handing Linlithgow the perfect start. Having travelled to Methil looking to upset the odds, the Lowland League champions defended resolutely and took their advantage into the interval, leaving the Fifers with plenty to ponder at half-time.

Whatever was said in the dressing room certainly had the desired effect. East Fife emerged after the break with renewed purpose and intensity, pinning Linlithgow back inside their own half and asking question after question of the visitors’ defence. It felt like an equaliser was only a matter of time, and on 57 minutes it finally arrived. Who else butNathan Austin? The veteran striker was in exactly the right place to bring the Fifers level and ignite both his teammates and the Bayview faithful.

With momentum firmly behind them, East Fife sensed blood. Just ten minutes later Austin struck again, this time finishing confidently after excellent work from David Wilson to complete the turnaround and cap another superb evening for the club’s talisman. The Fifers were now in complete control, moving the ball with confidence and forcing Linlithgow to chase the game.

There was still time for one more. Seven minutes from the end, substitutePat Slatteryput the result beyond doubt, applying the finishing touch after Jack Healy’s assist to seal a deserved 3-1 victory and spark celebrations around Bayview.

Credit should also go to Linlithgow Rose, who arrived with a game plan and executed it superbly during the opening 45 minutes. They made East Fife work for every opportunity and showed exactly why they deserved their place in this season’s Premier Sports Cup.

Three matches into the group stage, East Fife remain unbeaten and head to McDiarmid Park full of confidence. After taking a point from Inverness, defeating Greenock Morton and now coming from behind to overcome Linlithgow Rose, belief continues to grow around Bayview. Whatever happens against St Johnstone, the Fifers have already shown they are more than capable of competing with, and beating, quality opposition.
