Matthew Falconer makes loan move to Kelty Hearts

Partick Thistle Youth Academy graduate Matthew Falconer has joined SPFL League 2 side Kelty Hearts on a loan deal until January, subject to Scottish F.A. approval.

The 19-year-old midfielder has made five appearances so far this season for Mark Wilson’s first team, most recently as a second half substitute in our 1-0 win over Greenock Morton.

Matthew, who joined our Academy system when he was 11, signed his modern apprenticeship with the club in 2024 and earned his first professional contract back in May when he put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal.

Having previously spent time with Linlithgow Rose as part of a co-operation agreement, Falconer now heads to New Central Park where he’ll work under former Thistle player Thomas O’Ware whose Kelty side sit fifth in League 2 after six games.

Jags Head Coach Mark Wilson said:

“Matty has shown up really well whenever he’s had the chance to play in the first team, even when he’s been asked to play out of position, but with the level of competition in the squad at the moment we felt a loan move would be the natural next step for him.

“League 2 is a good level to be playing at and we already have Liam Rooney getting plenty of minutes for Clyde in that division which has been serving him well so far and we want that to be the case for Matty too.

“He’s got bundles of talent and this is his opportunity to go and show that on a weekly basis in a very competitive environment – we’re all excited to see how he gets on.”
