The Glasgow Clan head into the most important weekend of their season with everything still to play for, as they face the Belfast Giants over two legs in the 2025/26 EIHL Playoff Quarter-Finals.

It’s a familiar matchup. The two sides have already met ten times this season across league and Challenge Cup competition, with the Clan claiming just two wins. However, those numbers don’t tell the full story. Two of those defeats came in overtime, underlining just how fine the margins have been between the sides.

There’s also recent encouragement for the Clan. Their last visit to Belfast ended in a disciplined and impressive 3-1 victory, with goals from Brady Risk, Tristin Langan and Robert Lachowicz. Against the league champions, the Clan delivered a composed, structured performance that showed exactly what they are capable of when everything clicks.

That result will offer belief heading into Saturday night’s first leg at the SSE Arena Belfast. Getting a foothold in the tie on the road could prove crucial, particularly in a two-game series where every goal carries extra weight.

The challenge, though, is consistency. Less than 24 hours after that win in Belfast, the Giants responded with a 4-1 victory at Braehead Arena. Despite another goal from Risk, the Clan were unable to replicate the same level of control and discipline. That contrast between the two performances highlights what will be required this weekend.

Clan Captain Steven Seigo believes the group is ready for the moment.

“Everyone’s excited and eager to play for a spot in the playoff weekend,” he said. “It’s a big opportunity and we believe in our ability to succeed.”

For Seigo, there is also unfinished business. Last season’s playoff exit still lingers, and it’s something that continues to fuel both him and the team.

“That loss in Sheffield last year definitely stung, and stuck with me for a long time after. And not wanting to feel that again can definitely be an added piece of motivation.”

Reaching the Final Weekend remains a rare achievement in the club’s history, something the current group is determined to change.

“I think that’s a big form of motivation for us. We want to show what we know we are capable of. It would be special not only for us as players but the organisation and fans as well.”

Over two legs, Seigo is clear on what it will take to get the job done.

“Every moment matters in a two game series like this. We need to make sure we are not sitting back at all. We have to play fast and hard out of our zone and into our forecheck. We need to track back aggressively into our own end and play tight defensively. Belief and trust in each other and our plan will be key.”

With the first leg in Belfast and the second at Braehead Arena on Sunday, the tie sets up for a dramatic conclusion in front of the Clan’s home support.

If the Clan can replicate their best performance levels and maintain that intensity across both nights, they have every chance of overturning the odds and booking their place at the Playoff Final Weekend.
