Over the past few weeks, our football department have welcomed Malawian coach Bob Mpinganjira to the club as part of an educational visit.

Head Coach of the reigning Malawi Super League champions Mighty Wanderers, Bob has spent time observing first team and academy training sessions and games, learning more about session structuring, sports science, youth development principles and more.

Funded entirely by his club, Mpinganjira’s visit is representative of the strong existing connection between Scotland and Malawi with over 100,000 Scots holding active links to the southeast African nation.

Thistle Sporting Director Ian Baraclough said:

“It’s been a delight to have Coach Bob with us these last few weeks. I know from personal experience how much you can learn as a coach when you visit a completely new environment and hopefully Bob’s has taken plenty on board during his time here.

“We’ve tried to give him a real insight into how we do things at a first team and academy level, both on and off the pitch, and it’s experience that he can take back to build on what has already been a successful coaching career in Malawi.”
