Queen of the South 2-2 East Fife Match Report by Oli Anderson
🏆William Hill League 1
📍MGM Timber Bayview Stadium
🗓️Saturday 21st March 2026 | Kick-off: 3:00pm

East Fife and Queen of the South shared the spoils last Saturday, with East Fife fighting from behind twice, to secure a good point on the road. Myles Gaffney opened his East Fife account, while Sam Culbert scored East Fife’s second to deny Queens their third consecutive victory over East Fife.

It was the worst possible start for East Fife however, and a concerningly similar scene, as Queen of the South scored with the first real attack of the game. Reece Lyon opened the scoring for the hosts, as he answered Kai Kennedy’s cross from the left-hand side, and headed home past Ruairidh Adams.

East Fife have slumped in recent weeks after conceding first, although they showed some real character in Dumfries. Annan Athletic loanees love scoring for East Fife against Queen of the South, and Myles Gaffney is no different! He opened the scoring less than five minutes later. Michael McKenna’s corner was diverted by Gaffney at the front post, and he flicked the ball into the bottom corner.

East Fife and Queen of the South then spent the next twenty minutes trading blows, with both goalkeepers making saves.

However, it was the Queens who would strike next, as Lyon scored his second of the game after 25 minutes of play. Kennedy tried an audacious shot from range, which Adams looked to save, but unfortunately spilled. Guthrie then stabbed a backheel at goal, which the East Fife goalkeeper could recover enough to parry away. Sadly, Lyon was on hand to convert the rebound.

Both sides had chances in the remainder of the half, although Queen of the South came closer to adding to their lead, and we went in at the interval a goal behind.

On the hour mark, East Fife pulled level for the second time in the game. Pat Slattery slipped an absolutely perfect pass for Sam Culbert on the left-hand side, leaving Culbert to caress the ball past the Queens goalkeeper for two-each.

Both sides went chasing the winner, and Kieran Millar had a shot from range which forced a strong save from the Queens’ goalkeeper to keep the teams level.

Adams also had saves of his own to make and made a peach of a double save minutes after Stewart made his strong stop.

East Fife defended resolutely at the tail end of the game and took a well-earned point back up to the Kingdom. There is an argument East Fife could have had all three, but considering form in recent weeks, two games without defeat makes pleasant viewing as it is the first time we achieved such a feat since the 13th and 16th December.
