February was a hugely important month for Partick Thistle WFC and ultimately a massively successful month with Gary Holt’s side securing a top six finish courtesy of a dramatic 3-2 win over Hamilton Academical in the final game before the split.
In truth any number of players could have been in line for the McArthur Scott Player of the Month for February but the four nominees are:
Jenna Ferguson
Defender Jenna clocked up her 50th Partick Thistle appearance during the month of February. No small feat for a player so young. Calm and assured in the centre of the Thistle defence Jenna displays a maturity well beyond her years. Her contribution played a big part in Thistle securing that top six finish. Not least in the closing stages of the pivotal fixture against Montrose when Thistle were under pressure and she cleared two off the line.
Imogen Longcake
After a spell back in her native England, Imogen is back where she belongs at Petershill Park. Massively popular during her first spell as a Thistle player Imo quickly settled back into life in Glasgow as if she had never been away.
Her pace, work rate and ability to stretch the opposition’s defence was a real asset in the race to secure a top six place. Imogen’s first goal back in red and yellow which opened the scoring in the 2-1 win over Montrose was of real significance.
Rosie Slater
Rosie has grown up as a footballer while a Partick Thistle player. She first arrived at the Club as a young player with bags of potential and now, close on 150 appearances later, is near permanent feature in the Thistle side. Solid and uncompromising Rosie is the kind of defensive rock that every successful side requires, she brought that solidity into the Thistle midfield during February.
Isla Taylor
It is easy to forget just how young Isla Taylor is. She became Thistle’s youngest scorer in the club’s SWPL years when she netted the second goal in the 2-1 win over Montrose. It was a goal of real composure and confidence not something that you readily associate with a player who is still just 16. Isla followed that up with another important goal against Hamilton and played a big part in the second of the afternoon. A player rich in talent and unlimited potential Isla’s form as a Partick Thistle player has seen her gain international recognition and be nominated for the league wide Player of the Month award.
