The Cardiff Devils made the trip north for their final meeting of the season with the Glasgow Clan. With the previous matchups favouring the Devils, the Clan were determined to make a statement on home ice.
And what a statement it was.
Cardiff struck first through Joey Martin early in the opening period, but the Clan responded quickly. Brady Risk levelled the score just three minutes later before defenceman Chris McKay fired the home side into the lead.
Felix Paré extended the Clan advantage in the second period to make it 3–1, although Martin grabbed his second of the night to pull the Devils back within one.
The third period saw the Clan find another gear. Goals from Tristin Langan and Mick Messner stretched the lead to 5–2, giving the Clan five goals from five different scorers. Steven MacLean pulled one back late for Cardiff, but it wasn’t enough to stop Glasgow securing the victory.
Tempers flared after the final buzzer, with Devils players clashing with Clan netminder Sami Aittokallio. Cardiff goaltender Ben Bowns joined the fray in front of the bench as the game ended with a few heated exchanges.
Overall, it was an excellent performance from the home side, showing they can compete with – and beat – any team on their night.
Saturday night told a different story as the Clan travelled to Coventry to face the Blaze.
The Blaze have had the upper hand in the matchup all season and that trend continued. Glasgow struggled to find rhythm early on, with a lack of discipline and composure proving costly for the visitors.
A late goal from Rob Lachowicz ensured the Clan avoided the shutout, but it proved to be a frustrating night as Coventry skated away with the 4–1 win.
The Clan now face a tough double-header against current league leaders the Belfast Giants.
Glasgow travel to the SSE Arena Belfast before returning to Braehead Arena for the final home matchup against the Irish side on Sunday 22nd March.
Tickets are nearly gone, with fewer than 40 single seats remaining.
With the regular season drawing to a close, the Clan will be looking to collect as many points as possible to secure the best possible seeding for the Playoff Quarter-Finals. Just as importantly, the remaining fixtures offer a chance to measure themselves against the league’s top teams and build confidence ahead of the postseason.
