Glasgow Clan Strengthen Blue Line with Signing of American Defenceman Jake Johnson

The Glasgow Clan are delighted to announce the signing of American defenceman Jake Johnson ahead of the 2026/27 Elite League season.

The 27-year-old joins Glasgow following an impressive campaign with the Cincinnati Cyclones in the ECHL, where he established himself as one of the league’s standout blueliners. Johnson recorded 5 goals and 38 assists for 43 points in 59 games, earning selection to the 2025/26 ECHL All-Star Classic.

Before his spell in Cincinnati, the 6ft defenceman spent the 2024/25 season with the Tahoe Knight Monsters, contributing 4 goals and 17 assists for 21 points in 61 appearances, while finishing with an impressive +19 rating.

A reliable two-way defenceman, Johnson combines strong defensive awareness with the ability to contribute offensively, making him a valuable addition to the Clan’s blue line heading into the new campaign.

Director of Hockey Operations Zach Vinnell believes Johnson has all the attributes to make a significant impact in Glasgow.

Jake is a versatile defenceman who has a ton of upside. Jake had a really good season offensively, but what is best about him is that he can play both sides of the puck. It was clear why he was chosen as an ECHL All-Star last season in Cincinnati.

In our first conversation he made it clear he wants to WIN and that is music to our ears. We look forward to having Jake join us and playing a big role on our blue line.

Johnson is equally excited to begin the next chapter of his career with the Clan.
