Alex Samuel contract extension triggered

The club has exercised its option to extend Alex Samuel’s Thistle contract by a year, meaning the Welshman will be at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill until the summer of 2027 at least.

Signed last August, Alex made his Jags debut as a substitute in a 2-0 Premier Sports Cup win over Ayr United in Maryhill before scoring his first goal for the club three games later when he bagged the winner off the bench in a home league triumph over Airdrieonians.

His first start also came against Ayr United in a November victory and he would be in the starting line-up again the following month against St. Johnstone as he set up Tony Watt’s decisive goal en route to three points in Glasgow.

A much more regular first XI feature from that point on, Samuel has started 17 of our last 20 matches across all competitions and scored nine goals all-in-all with his most recent strike coming as a 90th minute winner at Cappielow Park on Friday night.

Thistle Head Coach Mark Wilson said:

“Alex is quite simply a delight to work with and the sort of player all coaches dream of having. The effort that he puts in everyday in training and then on matchdays is second to none and he brings real positivity to the dressing room alongside all of that.”

“Whether he’s a substitute or starting, playing in a two or up front by himself, you know what you’re going to get from Alex in terms of his commitment and bravery. He’ll put his body on the line for Partick Thistle every single week and I think that’s a big part of what’s endeared him to the fans.”
