Ben Stanway signs new deal at Firhill

Ben Stanway has signed a one-year deal to remain at Partick Thistle.

The 21-year-old midfielder continues his Firhill journey after a standout 2025/26 campaign which saw him win the club’s Player and Players’ Player of the Year awards.

A product of the Partick Thistle Youth Academy, Ben made his senior debut on 4th September 2021 in a Challenge Cup game against Stranraer and would go on to sign his modern apprenticeship with the first team the following year.

Stanway experienced regular senior football for the first time during a loan spell with Airdrieonians where he played 18 times and helped the Diamonds achieve promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.

Back at Firhill the following season, Ben had a breakthrough year as he featured 37 times for a Jags side who finished third in the league, scoring his first goal along the way in a Challenge Cup tie against Queen of the South.

There were flashes of excellence during a stop-start 2024/25 campaign but it was last season that Stanway showed the best of his career so far by playing 44 times, producing 16 goal involvements and earning a nomination for the PFA Scotland Championship Player of the Year award.

“It’s absolutely fantastic to have Ben back for the new season. He was such an integral part of the team last year, on and off the pitch, and it’s a huge boost that he’s decided to extend his stay at Partick Thistle.

“He had performed so well that there was always going to be interest in him from elsewhere and he has, quite rightly, taken his time to assess all of the options and focus on making the right choice for his career – pleasingly for us, that choice is to continue at Firhill.

“On our end, with the coaching staff and recruitment team, we’ve worked hard to keep the option of a new deal open and have stayed in dialogue with Ben throughout the summer.

“Ben is the type of all-round player who adds value to the team in any sort of game. He’s willing to get stuck in and defend when we are up against it but also has the quality on the ball and eye for goal to help us find the net when we’re on the front foot. He’ll fit in nicely again with our talented group of midfielders.”
