Were you one of the devoted supporters who made the unforgettable journey to Sweden in 1972? Or perhaps you’re the son or daughter of someone who did?
A remarkable piece of fan history has recently resurfaced, as original footage from that trip — capturing the spirit and camaraderie of those who travelled — has begun attracting fresh attention. What started as a personal archive has now sparked interest from both a Swedish filmmaker and the BBC production team behind A View from the Terrace.
The BBC crew recently spent several hours interviewing, revisiting memories of that unique journey: the interactions with players, the atmosphere surrounding the matches, and the memorable presence of Manchester City and their famously “charismatic” manager, Malcolm Allison.
The upcoming feature is scheduled to be available tomorrow from 12 noon on BBC iPlayer, with a full broadcast at 10:30pm on the BBC Scotland channel. A shortened version will also be shown during half-time on Sportscene tomorrow evening.
It will shine a light on that special group of supporters, around twenty in total, who made the Scandinavian trip at a time when such journeys were far less common than today. For many, it was a true adventure and a defining moment in their lives as fans.
Sadly, over the decades, contact has been lost with many of those who travelled. With some now unable to reconnect, this is a heartfelt attempt to reach out to anyone who may still be attending matches—or to their families who may have inherited that same passion.
If you were part of the trip, or know someone who was, please get in touch with Gordon Peden at. It would be wonderful to reconnect, share memories, and perhaps even catch a glimpse of your younger self when the footage is broadcast.
For those curious to revisit the past, the original footage,“Jags in Sweden”, has been available on YouTube for some time, alongsideother footagefrom the side in the 1970s. While Gordon modestly downplays its cinematic quality, it remains a priceless snapshot of a bygone era—one that continues to resonate with supporters today.
We encourage anyone connected to that 1972 journey to come forward and contact . Let’s bring those memories — and the people behind them — back together once again.
