The Glasgow Clan are delighted to announce the signing of Finnish goaltender Rasmus Tirronen for the 2026/27 Elite Ice Hockey League season.
The 35-year-old joins the Clan after spending the last four seasons with Black Wings Linz in the ICEHL, where he provided a steady presence between the pipes and brought valuable experience to the Austrian side.
Across his four seasons in Austria, Tirronen faced 4,912 shots, recording 4,460 saves and posting an impressive overall save percentage of 90.8%. He recorded save percentages of 90%, 91%, 92% and 91% respectively during his time in Linz, underlining his consistency at the highest level. He is also coming off a five shutout campaign.
Prior to his move to the ICEHL, Tirronen spent four seasons with TPS in Finland’s top-flight Liiga, adding to an already extensive professional career that also included time in North America. Following a successful collegiate career at Merrimack College in the NCAA, the Finnish netminder went on to feature for the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL and the Florida Everblades in the ECHL.
Standing at 6ft 3in, Tirronen also brings durability and toughness to the Glasgow crease, averaging 44 starts over the last 4 seasons.
Speaking after signing with the Clan, Tirronen said:
I’m really excited to be joining the Glasgow Clan and starting a new chapter in my career.
From the very first conversations with the club, it became clear that this is an ambitious organization with very passionate fans and a great hockey culture.
The opportunity felt like the right fit for me and my family, and I’m looking forward to experiencing Glasgow firsthand, meeting my new teammates, and contributing towards a successful season.
Assistant Coach Steven Birnstill knows Tirronen well from coaching against him during his time with Pioneers Vorarlberg and believes the Finnish veteran will be a major addition to the Clan roster.
Clan Assistant Coach Steven Birnstill – who coached against Tirronen in the ICEHL last season – said:
I have only coached against Rasmus, but everything I’ve heard about him has been extremely positive in regard to his character and personality.
I know he is a competitor, a very talented goaltender, and I think he will bring some experience and leadership into the locker room.
Tirronen becomes the 16th player confirmed for the Glasgow Clan’s 2026/27 roster and will wear jersey number #32.
Everyone at the Glasgow Clan would like to welcome Rasmus and his family to Glasgow.
