Everyone at the club was sorry to hear that Craig Morrison passed away on Saturday 15th August. Craig was a well-known and well-loved supporter of The Jags, an astute and respected businessman who recently acted as joint receiver of Dumbarton FC, but most of all a kind and generous man who will be missed by all, especially his friends and family.
He grew up in the West End and after qualifying as an accountant, he moved to Edinburgh, but continued to support Thistle and became a valued member of the Edinburgh and East of Scotland supporters group, acting as treasurer for a number of years, but never forgetting his Glasgow roots and friends.
Craig was ferociously loyal to Thistle and those long-standing PTFC brothers. In the mid-80s Craig first set foot in Firhill and from the 1990s onwards he rarely missed a game. Turning up every week with the same version of a nearly different fortnightly haircut, full of positive logical calm confidence and statistics. As the saying goes, roughly 80% of the time Craig was right every time!
Over land and sea is a mentality that Thistle fans live by. Craig and his friends went everywhere, Somerset Park, Brockville, Broomfield, Dens Park, but as for so many of that era, “over sea” became an unexpected reality, and a lads’ trip to Metz was the headline act of all away days. The memories that were made in Metz were special, but so too were all those peculiar moments, when travelling around Scotland on a Saturday afternoon.
Just over a year ago Craig was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a rare and invariably fatal cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, and immediately turned his hand to raising awareness and funds for Action on Asbestos. He provided regular updates on social media as his condition progressed, but his messages always reflected his courage, honesty, and humour.
A Thistle brother, who was a clever, loyal, brave, and hard working family man, and who will live on forever in the hearts and minds of many fellow fans. Craig’s funeral will be held at Mortonhall Crematorium (main chapel) in Edinburgh, at 12 noon on Friday 11th September.
Rest in peace Craig. Once a Jag, always a Jag.
