On Saturday, Ethan Ingram made his first competitive start as a fully-fledged Partick Thistle player as Mark Wilson’s Jags beat Stenhousemuir 3-0 in treacherous conditions at the WrightKerr Stadium at Firhill.
Having featured frequently as a substitute lately the Englishman finally got the nod from the off as the Warriors came to town and he gave us his immediate reaction to an eventful 90 minutes.
“I’m buzzing that we’ve come away with three points because that’s what we deserved. There was a lot of rain today and it wasn’t pretty at times but we just about managed to get through it.
“I think at points in the game there’s only so much you can do but going forward I felt comfortable, and then earning the clean sheet felt extra special.”
The win made it four victories in five for Thistle and took them to the top of the Championship table at the expense of their visitors with Ethan describing the boost that gives the squad.
“It’s brilliant for everyone. These past couple of weeks we’ve been able to keep stacking points. Getting another three today is obviously another positive step for us and it should help us kick on further.”
The 23-year-old defender hadn’t started a game since May before being named in the team on Saturday and he said he relished the opportunity to be involved in such a high stakes encounter.
“I was really happy when I found out I was in the team. As a player you always want to be involved in top of the table clashes.
“Obviously it’s only good when you go and do the business during the game and the team put in a really well-rounded performance. To contribute to the clean sheet was great and getting three goals was brilliant too.”
Heavy rain and wind had a significant impact on the game, mostly in the second half, and former Dundee man Ingram spoke on how he coped with the elements.
“It was tough; especially in the last 25 minutes when it didn’t really look like football. You try to use your head and stick to the game plan which we did as much as we could. We kept the ball in their half and saw it through to full-time.”
Finally, Ethan told us about the plans to prepare for next week’s home match against Greenock Morton.
“We’ll look to continue doing what we’ve been doing recently because we’ve found a solid rhythm. We want to get another three points and if we do all the right things, we firmly believe we can do that.”
