East Fife came away from Palmerston Park with a deserved point on Saturday afternoon after Andy Munro’s quick-fire equaliser secured a 1-1 draw against Queen of the South.

The Fifers made the trip to Dumfries looking to build on their 4-1 victory over Clyde in the KDM Evolution Trophy in midweek and continue their positive start to September.

There was little to separate the sides throughout a closely contested opening 45 minutes. Both teams enjoyed spells of possession, but clear-cut opportunities were difficult to come by as the two defences largely came out on top.

East Fife remained organised and disciplined, frustrating the hosts and ensuring the sides went into the interval goalless.

The game quickly burst into life after the restart, though, with Queen of the South breaking the deadlock in the 54th minute. Connor Young was the man to find the net for the Doonhamers, giving the home side the advantage and leaving East Fife with work to do.

They did not have to wait long for a response.

Just three minutes later, Andy Munro restored parity for the Fifers. The defender struck in the 57th minute to make it 1-1, immediately wiping out Queen of the South’s advantage and giving the travelling support something to celebrate.

From there, the game remained finely poised. Both sides went searching for the goal that would turn one point into three, but neither could find the decisive breakthrough before the final whistle.

There may be a slight feeling of frustration that East Fife could not find a winner, but a point at Palmerston is certainly not a bad result. More encouraging was the manner of the response after falling behind. Campbell’s side could easily have allowed Queen of the South to take control after Young’s opener, but instead they were level within three minutes.

Munro’s equaliser ensured the Fifers returned to Methil with something to show for their efforts and maintained some momentum following the midweek victory over Clyde.

Not quite the three points we would have wanted, but another battling performance on the road and another point on the board.
