The stars of Scottish hockey’s past returned to the ice at Braehead Arena on Saturday as part of the Hockey Homecoming, with the Scottish Hockey Alumni Tournament bringing together former favourites from across the country.

Four squads representing Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Fife went head-to-head in a celebration of Scottish hockey, with plenty of familiar faces returning to the rink and showcasing that the competitive spirit never quite disappears.

The Glasgow squad featured Gary Russell, Steve Birnstill, Ollie King, Matt Haywood, John Dunbar, Lee Esders and Craig Peacock, while Edinburgh were represented by Kevin Forshall, Scott McKenzie, Marc Fowley, Harry Ferguson, Scott Geddes, Sean Cochrane and Kyle Ferguson.

Dundee’s squad included Callum Donaghy, Cale Tanaka, Chris Wilson, Billy Baxter, Ty Gloski and Ben Walker, while Fife lined up with Andy Little, Adam Farmer, Lewis Gold, Andy Samuel, Willie Nicolson and James Spence.

The tournament provided supporters with the chance to see a host of former players back on the ice, with the four teams battling it out for the inaugural Legend Cup.

And it was Glasgow who came out on top, lifting the trophy in front of the Braehead crowd.

There were also individual honours to be handed out, with John Dunbar taking home the award for Top Scorer, while Ben Walker was named Player of the Tournament for his standout performances throughout the event.

The Alumni Tournament was a fitting part of Hockey Homecoming, celebrating the players, memories and rivalries that have helped shape Scottish ice hockey over the years.

With former Clan, Steelers, Stars, Flyers and other Scottish hockey favourites sharing the ice once again, the event proved that while the jerseys may have changed, the passion for the game remains as strong as ever.

And for Glasgow, there was the added satisfaction of taking the Legend Cup home.
