Caledonia Gladiators, Scotland’s only professional basketball club and sole representative in Super League Basketball, today announces a new additions to its coaching staff, with Shawnisay Millar joining as Assistant Coach for the women’s team.
Shawnisay Millar joins the Gladiators after most recently serving as Graduate Assistant with the Texas Tech Lady Raiders women’s basketball program under head coach Krista Gerlich for 2 years, where she was part of a staff that helped guide the team to the program’s first NCAA Tournament win in over 20 years during the 2025-26 season.
In her new role, Millar will work alongside Head Coach Donnie MacDonald to support player development, game preparation and the day-to-day operations of the women’s side as the team competes in the 2026-27 SLB season. She will also support the club’s substantial community offering which trains over 300 young people in basketball each week.
Head Coach, Donnie MacDonald said: “I’ve known Shawnisay for a number of years, through her time as a player with Scotland National Teams and with Caledonia Pride. Having spent the last 7 years in the States, first as a player and then as a coach, she has gained fantastic experience that will help our team. She is going to have a great impact on our programme.”
As we welcome Shawnisay into this role, we’d like to give a huge thanks to Max Hirst for his dedication and passion across a successful season 2025-26 campaign, and we wish him all the very best for the future.
Caledonia Gladiators Women will take on Newcastle Eagles in a pre-season friendly at Playsport, East Kilbride on Sunday 20th September at 12.30pm. Tickets are just £5 and available to purchase here.
