Shona Cowan rejoins PTWFC

Partick Thistle Womens FC are pleased to announce the return of Shona Cowan, who rejoins the club for the 2026/27 season following her departure from Hamilton.

A product of the Hearts youth system, Shona worked through the ranks before becoming a regular feature for the Edinburgh outfit as a teenager. The defender is no stranger to slotting in right across the back four, gaining a reputation for her reliability and versatility at the heart of the backline.

A familiar face to the Thistle support, Shona first arrived at Petershill on loan midway through the 23/24 campaign where she immediately slotted into a strong Jags side at 19 years old. Despite a brief spell on the sidelines through injury, she went from strength to strength in Red and Yellow in her 11 appearances that season. Having impressed the management, her loan move was made permanent in May of 2024 where it went on to be much of the same, racking up a further 26 appearances before she departed for Hamilton last season.

She now returns to Gary Holt’s side for the new campaign ready to reacquaint herself in Red and Yellow.

Speaking after signing Shona said:

“I loved my first spell here, It’s such a great club to be part of. I feel I have improved and matured as a player in my spell away and I can’t wait to show that in Red and Yellow

“There are still some of the same girls here from my last spell, so It’s been great to get to see them again and I’m looking forward to meeting the new girls and working with the manager”

Manager Gary Holt said: “Shona really impressed me when we came up against her last season and the girls here who I’ve spoken to have nothing but great things to say about her.

“She offers us real versatility at the back which is important when you’ve not got a huge squad.

“She’s incredibly fit and it’s clear to see how hard she works. When you’ve got a player like that in your squad it’s a joy to work with and I know Shona will be that”
